Super Junior Siwon Scribbled Out After Racist Controversy

Super Junior Siwon has been at the end of backlash from the Knetizens, K-pop fans, and his own group members. Following his conservative political stance, racist views, and discriminatory behaviour on TikTok streams, many fans and the K-pop group Super Junior members have reacted adversely to the incidents. For instance, recently Super Junior Leeteuk scribbled out Choi Siwon from the promotional Instagram post with Mega Coffee. The Instagram post featured 8 out of 9 members, excluding Super Junior Siwon.

The reason is not limited to political views and racist controversies but goes deeper than that. Three Super Junior members even officially unfollowed Choi Siwon on Instagram and maintained distance on-stage, marking a broken relationship with the K-pop idol. Let’s go through the Super Junior Siwon timeline of events before it exploded with racial and Islamophobic controversies, and potential support for the Charlie Kirk shooting incident.

Siwon Dog Bite Incident

Back in September 2017, Super Junior Choi Siwon French bulldog, Bugsy, bit a 53-year-old neighbour named Kim. Kim was the CEO of the Korean restaurant Hanilkwan. The dog attacked the neighbour in the apartment elevator. Sadly, after six days of the bite incident, neighbour Kim died of sepsis or blood poisoning. On October 21, 2017, Super Junior Siwon posted a public apology for the unfortunate demise and said, “As a member of a family raising a dog, I should have kept a close eye on the dog, but my utter carelessness led to a horrible incident, and I am deeply reflecting.

However, the controversy took a turn when K-pop fans discovered that Siwon’s dog, Bugsy, had a history of biting people. In a 2015 Instagram post, Super Junior Leeteuk, after Bugsy bit him, wrote, “It’s ugly. This isn’t a puppy, it’s a pig… It bit me…the look in its eyes as if it’s better than me…it’s ugly…Siwon, raise him well…” This made strides against Siwon, and his fans criticised the idol online.

Evidence number 2 was found when Choi Siwon’s father misrepresented the scene, claiming the dog escaped when the door was open. But the CCTV footage shows the dog and the owner waiting for the lift outside the apartment. The Super Junior Siwon and family were fined 50,000 Won for not keeping their dog under control.

In view of all these incidents, the victim’s family forgave Choi Siwon and his family for the unfortunate attack by their dog. The victim’s sister stated, “Choi Siwon visited our family several times to apologise, even cried at the funeral. I held onto his two hands and forgave him. However, Choi Siwon was excluded from all Super Junior promotional activities for their eighth album “Play.” Though he participated in music recording and video filming, only six members attended the promotion of the album.

Choi Siwon Supported Charlie Kirk

As you may have seen, American conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot dead at Utah Valley University. A day later, Super Junior Siwon posted an Instagram story mourning the death of American republican activist Charlie Kirk with “REST IN PEACE CHARLIE KIRK” along a cross symbol. He didn’t stop there and went on to share another story with a family photo and wrote, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

He deleted the stories after the backlash from the Knetizens and K-pop fans across the world. Later, Choi Siwon addressed the controversy on Bubble, saying. “Charlie Kirk was the head of a family and a husband, and lost his life during a shooting incident. Regardless of his political inclination, I mourned the demise of a person, but angered fans started the #SIWON_OUT trend and several Instagram accounts demanded his removal from the K-pop group Super Junior.

Following this controversy, Super Junior members Leeteuk and Yesung unfollowed K-pop idol Choi Siwon. This showed the disapproval from the bandmates of his recent actions. Later, in a viral airport video, Leeteuk seemed to ignore Siwon when he approached to hug him. A fan commented, “Leeteuk is pissed off… man, your own members are mad, is that not a sign to leave?”. On September 30, 2025, Super Junior Heechul also unfollowed Choi Siwon on Instagram, marking a rift between the members.

Super Junior Siwon Shared an Islamophobic Post

In September 2025, Super Junior Siwon shared a video on his story by Instagram account, “Reformedbychrist,” with a caption, “Nigerian Christians refuse to give up their faith after Islamists burned their church to the ground.” The Instagram story faced immediate backlash from the fans, noting Siwon’s alleged hypocrisy and ignoring other global issues, including one in Gaza.

Later, Choi Siwon issued a public apology on Bubble with statistics of persecution against Christians in Nigeria and labelled that he was just trying to spread awareness. However, furious fans accused him of being selective, Islamophobic, racist, and hypocritical.

Leeteuk Scribbled Photo Row

On November 10, 2025, Super Junior leader Leeteuk posted an Instagram photo to promote a brand deal with Mega Coffee, but scribbled out Siwon from the photo. All the OT8 members were in the frame, excluding Choi Siwon. This is the most direct attack on Siwon by Leeteuk in Siwon and Super Junior’s controversy ever. After posting, Leeteuk limited the Instagram comments, discouraging further discussion on the topic.

Choi Siwon: A Couple of TikTok Live Controversies

Whenever Siwon goes online on TikTok, controversies follow him. During a TikTok live stream, he portrayed himself as a cousin of Kim Jong Un to the participants, unfamiliar with the K-pop group Super Junior. He said, “I’m a politician from North Korea, I’m just Kim Jong Un’s cousin, I’m a politician, I’m just working for my country now.” It sparked controversy, given the ongoing harsh and tense relationship between North and South Korea.

Another controversial scene occurred when Super Junior Siwon abruptly ended TikTok live with an arab national after he refused to help him, muting every person and behaving seriously, but smiled when Korean fans joined, sparking discriminatory behaviour based on region and race.

Now Controversies Follow Siwon

Now, Choi Siwon is not making controversies, but all the issues and controversies follow him. Whether big or small, right or wrong, Siwon is accused at every point by the fans. However, there are clear signs of controversy in many cases, including the Dog bite incident, the Charlie Kirk case, etc, but he does not seem to spread racial hatred and an Islamophobic stance via his stories and live streams.

Three of his teammates have officially unfollowed him on Instagram; the Manila concert distancing was a new low, scribbing out from the post, and fans accusing him at each and every point. But SM Entertainment has not issued any statement yet, while other members keep in touch with Super Junior Siwon and follow him on Instagram. It is hard to tell if he will remain in the K-pop group or not after several intense controversies and some hyped up controversies.
